Employing kind and gentle ‘lure & reward’ based training methods we will help you to understand why your dog is behaving in a certain way, and help you to overcome the problems using language that you can understand and relate to. Doggy Dilemmas consultations take place at your own home so we can observe the dog in his or her own surroundings and you can feel comfortable and relaxed.
Perhaps you have only just acquired an adult dog, or puppy and you don’t know where to start? Doggy Dilemmas can help by giving you all the information you need to prepare for the various stages of canine life and how to ensure you don’t create problems such as fearful behaviour or aggression etc.
If general training is what you need we can offer one-to-one sessions to help with on-lead issues, or to demonstrate how to teach basic commands and recall etc.
Many years ago, back in the late 1990s, Jo Wood needed help with Diesel the ‘Devil Dog’. After calling a number of behaviourists, she realised that not only did many of them make her feel like a ‘rubbish’ owner, but that this was also going to be an expensive venture.
Just a few years later, following extensive study of canine psychology, Jo launched Doggy Dilemmas and vowed to help owners with problem dogs by offering both a friendly and empathetic approach, along with realistically affordable pricing. Since then Jo has been joined by her colleague Anne-Marie who has extensive knowledge of canine behaviour and considerable dog handling experience.

Hi my name is Anne-Marie and I have been passionate about animals for as long as I can remember. My love of animals doesn’t just start and stop at dogs, I thrive off extending my knowledge on all things furry and I attend as many workshops and conferences that I can. I make a point of keeping up to date with all the latest training techniques to make sure I can pass on my experience and knowledge to you and your pets.
Having always been surrounded by dogs it was inevitable that I would want to work with animals. I have owned a number of dogs myself and carried out extensive training with these to improve socialisation and basic good manners. I have experience of working in kennels and I’m used to handling dogs of all sizes.
I am also the person responsible for running our training and socialisation classes and, although they don’t run continuously, you can contact me for information or to reserve a place on up-coming courses.
- BTEC First Diploma in Animal Care
- Foundation Degree in Animal Management and Behaviour
- Trained in Emergency Canine First Aid
- Anne-Marie has appeared on Beverley FM to discuss canine behaviour
I was recommended doggy dilemmas from a friend and I was not disappointed. I rang Jo and got an appointment with Ann Marie with in 48 hours. Ann Marie called me immediately to introduce herself and go through any problems we had with our little four legged friend. She came to our home and spent over 2 hours giving us advice on what we should and shouldn’t be doing and how we can change things around the home to help our Stanley become better behaved. She was so interested in him and so keen and happy to help and left feedback and notes on everything we had gone through. Thanks so much Ann Marie we will be recommending you to our friends and family in the future. 5* from us x
Having just met Jo the one time I feel much more confident. Jo explains everything so clearly. By giving me simple instructions I saw an immediate positive response from my dogs…I was so pleased and relieved.
I have a very anxious, reactive dog. We went for a little walkies and after a few minutes, my dog was paying attention to me and not reacting to other dogs at all. I have some work to do but I now feel I have got my drive back, I will become top dog!
What’s also really handy is, Jo leaves you with lots of notes to refer to.
Thank you so much Doggy Dilemmas.
Your love for dogs changes peoples lives.
These two ladies are so passionate about what they do and they genuinely care about the dogs. They don’t just train the dogs, they also leave the owners feeling more knowledgeable and confident to continue the training themselves.
Would highly recommend to anyone!
